Engineering services

We provide engineering services for aerodynamics, aeroelastics, aeroacoustics and structures. We have specialist knowledge of rotary systems for the aerospace and wind energy sectors, including full design cycle experience from concept to release-to-service. We provide any level of support to meet the client requirements in project management, technical supervision or performing design and analysis. Our technical supervision can be on an ad hoc basis or to deliver complete programmes; we can guide integrated design teams and mentor engineers on an individual basis. We support any stage of the design life-cycle from methodology selection and implementation of tests and analysis processes to results post-processing and evaluating evidence for product release.

Market-leading rotor aeroelastics

Our services in rotor aerodynamic and aeroelastics engineering are market leading. We have extensive experience in commercial product design, and cutting-edge rotor research and innovation. Axsym has won funding competitions from the UK Government for innovation in the simulation of wind turbines, including stall flutter behaviour, and in multi-disciplinary simulation technology. In 2014, Axsym was chosen to provide the aerodynamic, aeroacoustic, structural dynamics and aeroelastic engineering design work for the future helicopter rotor concept commissioned by the UK Government. Our customers

Our customers include research institutions, aerospace and wind turbine manufacturers, consultancies and defence contractors. Most of our engineering services are provided in the UK, although we have clients in continental Europe and Asia Pacific and the proportion of our overseas work has been steadily increasing. The technical support services provided by Axsym have been used in the design of market-leading helicopter and wind turbine rotor designs, and in the modification of existing aircraft. Our consultants have supported airworthiness design authorities, delivering independent technical evaluation of loads and structural substantiation of a fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft against EASA certification requirements and UK MoD standards specifications.

The services we have provided range from aerofoil design to full product aeroelastic design and have been used by helicopter manufacturers and small and large wind turbine manufacturers. Our loads and vibration analysis services have been used in the development of the next generation of active helicopter rotor blades for improved performance, passenger comfort and noise. We have provided stress and loads troubleshooting for axial fan manufacturers and supported aircraft operational requirements, including envelope expansion and analysis of performance in extreme conditions.
